Last night, Nissan picked up two awards at the What Car? Green Awards. At the award ceremony Qashqai triumphed in the Green Crossover category and the Renault-Nissan Alliance received a special Editor’s Award for its pioneering role in offering practical and fun electric cars in the shape of the new Nissan Leaf and Renault Fluence.
Qashqai’s unique blend of stylish sophistication, great practicality and competitive running costs proved to be a winning combination in the eyes of the What Car? judges.
“The Qashqai 1.5dCi Visia Pure Drive won the Crossover category for its cost-effectiveness, practicality, comfort, drivability and environmental credentials,” explains What Car? editor-in-chief Steve Fowler. “It’s a great family car, the cabin is spacious and classy, while the tall stance gives an excellent view of the road ahead.”
Leaf, the world’s first mass-produced, affordable zero-emission car, was a key element behind the What Car? judges’ decision to select the Renault-Nissan Alliance as the winner of this year’s Editor’s Award.
“The electric car has come of age – and that’s down to the Renault-Nissan Alliance,” says Steve Fowler. “While other manufacturers are still making plans and running trials, Renault and Nissan have beaten them to the punch with proper electric cars you’ll actually be able to buy and run by this time next year. You’ll want one, too.
“Cars such as the Nissan Leaf will change people’s perceptions of electric motoring for good. The memories of small, oddball vehicles with limited space, range and safety will be history thanks to Nissan and Renault.”
